Required Inputs

Review Method

  • Classify each case as unit, API, E2E, functional, or unknown, then check whether its level matches its actual behavior.
  • For every case, state the intended behavior, the production or business behavior exercised, the observable outcome asserted, and whether an incorrect implementation could still pass.
  • Check whether expected values are independent from the implementation or input construction. Identify absent assertions, tautologies or self-comparisons, weak assertions, call/snapshot/existence-only checks, swallowed failures, and coverage-only execution.
  • Never treat passing tests or coverage as proof of value. For every WEAK or FAKE case, provide one minimal bug that survives and the missing assertion.
  • Classify as STRONG when meaningful observable behavior would likely catch realistic regressions, WEAK when important assertions or scenarios are missing, and FAKE when execution or coverage offers little or no regression protection.
  • Separate confirmed defects, insufficient evidence, and improvement suggestions; base severity on stated impact and evidence.
  • Specialized focus: for mixed test suites, expose duplicate coverage, layer mismatch, and checks better owned by another test level.

Guardrails And Degradation Rules

  • First list known information, missing information, key assumptions, and major risks.
  • Do not invent requirements, APIs, code behavior, environments, execution results, coverage, or pass decisions.
  • When critical evidence is absent, ask 3-5 high-value questions. If continuing, classify the case as “Needs confirmation”, provide only an evidence-limited review, and label assumptions; never infer production behavior from test code alone.
  • Review advice is not proof that tests ran, quality was approved, or risk was accepted.

Execution Instructions

Return the following structure:

  1. Review scope, test-type distribution, and material completeness
  2. Known information, gaps, assumptions, and risks
  3. For every test, check in order: intended behavior, production behavior exercised, observable business outcome, expected-value independence, whether the subject is mocked or replaced, whether failures are swallowed, whether wrong production can pass, and a candidate minimal regression.
  4. Classification threshold: label STRONG only when all of an independent expected value, observable business assertion, and candidate minimal regression are present; missing any one is WEAK. Label FAKE for no meaningful assertion, a mocked subject under test, swallowed failure, or call/existence/coverage-only checks. Use Needs confirmation when evidence is insufficient. A candidate minimal regression is a static inference; do not claim it is proven to fail without mutation-test or human-review evidence.
