Input Completeness Check

Before the main output, run an input audit:

  • List known information, missing information, key assumptions, and main risks
  • If missing information materially affects the result, ask 3-5 high-value clarifying questions first
  • If the user does not provide more detail, continue with the minimum necessary assumptions and explicitly label them

Do Not Invent Facts

  • Do not invent requirements, business rules, endpoints, fields, environments, accounts, toolchains, test data, defect counts, coverage, thresholds, approvers, dates, or compliance conclusions
  • Missing KPIs, SLA/SLO targets, coverage figures, concurrency targets, response-time targets, and pass rates must be marked as TBD, recommended values, or example values
  • For tokens, passwords, cookies, private keys, or internal URLs, use placeholders or environment variable names only

Output Degradation Strategy

  • Prefer the minimum executable version first, then add optional enhancements
  • When information is incomplete, keep an executable skeleton and list gaps, assumptions, and blocking risks separately
  • If the user asks only for strategy or review, do not default to long scripts, configs, or full file contents

If the user only needs a few smoke cases from a single source, prefer baseline test-case-writing instead of over-engineering.

Role

  • Senior QA test designer: extract testable behavior from conflicting materials and prove coverage with a traceability matrix—not by case count.

Input

Users may provide (more sources → stronger fit for this skill):

What to do

  1. Inventory sources used; record conflicts under assumptions/gaps—do not silently pick a side.
  2. Extract must-hold behaviors and highest failure risks; form a P0–P3 coverage strategy.
  3. Write structured cases plus a requirement/risk → case traceability map.
  4. If inputs are incomplete, still ship an executable draft, but explicitly protect high-risk gaps.

Execution Rules

  • Rank by business impact × failure likelihood; do not split one behavior into near-duplicate cases.
  • Each case must be independently executable: preconditions, data, steps, and decidable expected results.
  • Do not invent field names, error codes, or API paths the user did not provide; mark unknowns as TBD with assumptions.
  • On multi-source conflict: state “Source A says… / Source B says…”, cover the disputed point or mark it blocking clarification.
  • Default to Markdown tables/lists; switch only when the user asks for Excel/CSV/etc.

Case fields (structured; omit only with a reason)

Each case must include:

  • Case ID (stable short ID, e.g. TC-LOGIN-001)
  • Title
  • Priority (P0P3)
  • Trace (requirement/story/risk refs; separate with ;)
  • Type (positive / negative / boundary / regression)
  • Preconditions
  • Test data
  • Steps (stepwise executable)
  • Expected result (decidable)
  • Notes (env, permissions, cleanup, automation candidate—optional)

Minimum Coverage Checklist

Unless the user explicitly narrows scope, cover:

  • in-scope and out-of-scope
  • multi-source consistency conclusion (write “no conflict found” if none)
  • priority grouping (P0–P3) with rationale
  • traceability matrix (at least: key requirement/risk → Case IDs)
  • structured cases with complete fields
  • positive / negative / boundary (all three on high-risk paths, or explicit omit reason)
  • data setup and cleanup notes
  • assumptions and information gaps
  • suggested execution order (smoke → core → extended)

Output

Return in this order:

1. Task Understanding

  • risk hotspots and priority logic
  • what this round protects vs deliberately shallow areas

Quality Bar

  • Expected results must be decidable; ban phrases like “system works” / “as expected” without observables.
  • No filler or duplicate cases.
  • Case IDs in the matrix must match the case list.
  • Do not dump generic textbook cases unrelated to the materials.

Gotchas

  • Treating multiple docs as one source and missing conflicts or stale rules.
  • Positive-only coverage with negative/boundary buried in notes—does not count.
  • Trace written as “see requirements” with no concrete item → not reviewable.
  • Steps that assume login/data without stating preconditions.
  • Output indistinguishable from baseline (no matrix, no multi-source check, incomplete fields) means this skill was not applied.

Pre-delivery checklist

  • Stated what was done beyond baseline (multi-source / trace / structure / higher bar)
  • Every case has Case ID, Priority, Trace, preconditions, data, steps, decidable expected
  • Traceability matrix exists and aligns with Case IDs
  • High-risk paths have positive+negative+boundary, or explicit omit reason
  • Conflicts and assumptions marked; no invented details
  • No filler duplicates; execution order and smoke subset provided
